My Grandmother, Susie, is 98 years old. She has been in very good health until very recently. She has taken a turn for the worse and is praying for God to take her home. It’s so sad to see how weak she has become, but she has always been a light in our lives. She loves to laugh and has never been persnickety or hard to get along with. Growing up, marrying and raising a family of eight children in the mountains of southwestern Virginia was not easy. For over half her life she had no household utilities or modern conveniences except for electricity. She simply did what had to be done to take care of her family. I treasure all the times we’ve had together.

I have spent a lot of time this week going through old pictures. In my move to Florida I brought things I really don’t need. In preparation for a community garage sale next week I am going back through boxes for the third time.
Some of the pictures I have date over 100 years. Some are Ron’s family and some are mine.
Looking at the faces, some full of promise and hope and some reticent and sad.
I don’t know all the personal stories but the ones I do know have many different emotions connected with them.
I saw new moms and dads holding infants in their arms, glazed eyes, tired from the rigors of caring for infants, but still glowingly hopeful. I saw children with stars in their eyes looking at all the presents they received on Christmas morning.
I know some of those children have lived up to their parent’s hopes. I know some have taken paths that brought great destruction on their families, and to themselves. Yet the cycle of life continues and each life brings new joy and hopes.

Hello everyone. I had the privilege of participating at the 2nd Annual Venice Book Fair yesterday. I’ve never even been to a book fair so I didn’t quite know what to expect. My good friend, Pat, spent the day with me and we had a fine time of fellowship but we also met some interesting people. I was touched by the stories people shared with me, and some of those shed a few tears. As William Shakespeare said in King Henry the Sixth, “To weep is to make less the depth of grief.”
I was “winding down” last evening and thought about the many people who do not have the peace in their souls which comes from knowing Christ as their Savior.

I am concerned about the ones who read the back of the book, sat it down and quickly moved on. It’s not that I felt insulted by that, not at all. I put a lot of books down after reading what they are about, it’s just that I know there are so many people dealing, or not dealing, with the death of a loved one that I want to encourage them. God left us here for a reason and I have asked Him from the beginning of this recovery process what plans He has for me.

I am concerned about the gentleman who declared he had written in his will that his body must be kept alive by any means because he intends to go to Heaven and get stories of ones who had committed suicide so he could come back and write a book. I’m concerned about the lady who said she was a medium and held her hands over the book and stated she could feel Ron’s strength coming through.
I want to be more sensitive to those in need around me.
